According to the OSHA standard 1910.157(c)(1), portable fire extinguishers should be placed in areas where they are readily accessible and immediately available in the event of a fire. The rule also stipulates that fire extinguishers should be placed along normal paths of travel, including exits from areas. Source: Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
